Cotton velveteen hand-dyed by Wendy Richardson, cotton fabrics, beads, metallic thread, wire mesh and barb wire. The news had been very distressing and it seemed that violence was everywhere in the world. I also saw some pictures of soldiers breaking down the beautifully carved wooden doors of a palace. I find it so sad that, besides human suffering, war also brings the destruction of art and culture. This is why I wanted a strong contrast between the beauty of the underlying fabric piece and the torn wire barrier, in which a bloody rag is caught. |
