| This icon-shaped piece opens to reveal a scene completely different from the outside, made of heavily stitched and embellished velveteen. When the piece is opened, the viewer comes into a peaceful hand-embroidered and appliquéd landscape that depicts the passing of seasons. I wanted to emphasis how important nature and its changes are and how much we need to learn again to be in tune with our world. With the passage of time and of the seasons, one grows old. In this piece I also wanted to stress the power and wisdom of old age(crones), an age dismissed and ridiculed in our society. | |
