Just after the death of my remaining grandmother, artist and author Jan Smiley contacted me and asked if I would consider contributing a fabric book to the book she was writing for C&T Publishing (The Art of Fabric Books). It was the perfect opportunity to reflect on the women in my family, whom I always felt were very strong. I have my grandmother's button box and a lot of mementos (cards, fabrics, handkerchiefs) left by my various ancestors and made the book to include these mementos. I also wrote the memories I had of each person and printed the text on the fabric. The detail photos show the book closed and opened, one page closed and opened. |
